When she slowed down, a 28-year-old man who had been driving behind her did not slow down. He rear-ended the woman’s vehicle.
The impact from the collision sent her car across the main highway lanes and came to rest in the left and middle traffic lanes.
The report doesn’t indicate if Hernandez-Ramirez’s car was inoperable.
The proper procedure in Texas is to move the vehicles, if they are drivable, out of the flow of traffic. This is to help keep traffic flowing and to reduce the risk of a secondary accident from occurring.
After the accident, Hernandez-Ramirez and the man who rear-ended her were exchanging their information.
While they were doing this, a woman was driving in the left lane of the highway. She struck the left passenger side of Hernandez-Ramirez’s car, where she was standing.
It is not clear if the police had been called for the first collision. When they arrived at the scene of both accidents, they found Hernandez-Ramirez dead from the second collision.
The female driver of the car that struck Hernandez-Ramirez was taken to Medical City Hospital. There she was treated for injuries that were deemed minor.
The man from the initial accident stayed at the scene. The officers who responded found that the man was under the influence and had been driving impaired. He was taken into custody and is currently facing DWI charges.
There has not been any mention regarding the female who ultimately caused the accident that killed Hernandez-Ramirez. It is not clear at this time if she will be facing charges for the death.
Police are still investigating the accident.
