ENCINITAS, CA – A pedestrian died after being struck by a train in Encinitas late Monday afternoon.
According to NBC San Diego, the accident took place at about 3 p.m when the pedestrian attempted to cross the tracks near the intersection of Chesterfield Drive and San Elijo Avenue.

The unidentified victim was pronounced dead upon emergency crews’ arrival at the scene. It is still unclear why they were in the tracks at the time of the incident.
The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending further investigation.
