The police said that the driver involved, 21-year-old Nifo Ufau, fled the scene in his vehicle, and they located the automobile a short while after in the 100-block of Barneveld Avenue. While officers were investigating the collision, they got a report that the man turned himself in at the Bayview Police Station.
The accident report showed that the police took Ufau into custody on suspicion of speeding, hit-and-run, and vehicular manslaughter. They are holding him without bail, and there’s currently no information on his arraignment. Anyone with information about the accident should contact the SFPD on the listed line or use the 24-hours tips line if they wish to remain anonymous.
A hit-and-run accident occurs when the driver of a car strikes another vehicle, a person, animal, object, or property, and leaves the scene without reporting the crash to the relevant authorities or rendering help. A driver who did not have liability in an accident but leaves the scene without speaking to the police would also be liable for a hit-and-run charge.
