The Long Beach Police Department closed down Hughes Avenue in Fresno early Thursday morning to investigate a pedestrian accident.
The accident in question occurred on March 19, around 3:40 a.m. along Hughes Avenue close to the intersection of Weber Avenue.

The driver of a white pickup truck phoned police after striking the pedestrian with their vehicle. The name of the driver has not been released to the public at this time. They did stay at the scene and cooperate with authorities.
Emergency medical personnel at the scene attempted to revive the pedestrian, unsuccessfully. The Fresno County Coroner pronounced 32-year-old Fresno resident Anthony Chozo dead at the scene of the accident.
There has not been a whole lot of information regarding the details of the accident released. The cause of the accident or the circumstances around it have not been determined. It is unclear if the driver of the vehicle is facing citations at this time.
A satellite image of the area shows that in the area of the accident, there is a Valero station, a liquor store, a tire repair business, and a restaurant. It has not been determined where the victim of the accident was coming from or going to.
There has not been any speculation at this point that impairment was a factor for either the driver or the victim. The Long Beach Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation of the accident.
