Initial reports indicated that 54-year-old Anthony Guillory of Hillister was backing his 2003 Freightliner truck and tractor-trailer into a driveway on Farm-to-Market 1013. His trailer was blocking the eastbound lane.
A 2004 Ford SUV operated by 15-year-old Kountze teenager Carly Jacobs was driving east on Farm-to-Market Road 1013 when she encountered Guillory’s tractor-trailer.
The impact was so violent between the SUV and the tractor-trailer that Jacobs and her passengers inside the SUV ended up lodged underneath the tractor-trailer. The entire top portion of the roof was missing from the SUV when it was extracted from beneath the trailer.
Jacobs had three passengers inside of the vehicle at the time of the accident. The ages of those passengers ranged from 7 to 44.
Ambulances were called to the scene to transport all the occupants from the SUV to the hospital. They were taken to Baptist Hospital in Beaumont for treatment. The injuries assessed at the scene were determined to be extremely serious in nature.
There have been no updates to the condition of Jacobs or her passengers at the time of publication.
It is possible that Jacobs is a new driver. The driver’s permit age in Texas is 15 years old. 15-year-old drivers must complete parental classroom time as well as pass the initial written test to get the learner’s permit.
The driver of the semi-truck, Guillory, was not injured in the accident.
There was no mention of if Jacobs would receive any citations for the accident. The investigation as to what caused her to collide with the semi-trailer is ongoing.
