A man from Palm Desert, California, who crashed his car while fleeing a crime scene in Indian Wells would need the expertise of a top accident lawyer. The police booked Adam Slater, 49, into the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio on Thursday, May 7th, at about 7 p.m.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said in a press briefing that the events that led to the man’s arrest began on Wednesday, May 6th. The police on that day received information about the suspect assaulting Ashely Grome, 25, outside Southwest Church. Slater then took a 1-year-old child, Maddie, identified as his daughter and fled the scene.

At about 9 a.m., officers tracked down the suspect to a crash site along Highway 74. They found that the vehicle the man was driving overturned and came to rest about a 100-feet from the roadway. A male bystander freed the little girl from the wrecked car, but Slater got out and stabbed the man.
Witnesses said the suspect then took the child and threw her over a cliff into a ravine. He fled into the canyon on foot, but the police caught him after a brief chase. They located Maddie’s body, but she had already passed away.
The officers took Slater to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries before arresting him. The authorities have not stated the charges against the man, but his jail records show they are holding him on suspicion of murder amid other traffic offenses.
The investigation remains ongoing, and a top accident lawyer would help to provide legal advice and representation if needed.
