At the same time, Springs was riding a propelled scooter on Iron. The suspect struck the teenager with his truck, leaving him with severe but non-life-threatening injuries. Medics used an air ambulance to transport the teen to a hospital in the Phoenix area, and he is in stable condition.
Officers determined that Tews was intoxicated and gave him a field sobriety test, which he failed. They searched his truck and found marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a handgun. The lawmen placed him under arrest and charged him with driving under the influence of drugs, drug possession, and misconduct involving a weapon.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the crash should contact the Prescott Police on the listed line. Driving under the influence is a severe offense in Arizona, and those found guilty of it are liable to jail time, fines, and revocation of driving privileges.
