Ponce was the front-seat passenger in the Ranger, and he sustained severe wounds that led to his death at the scene. Ambrose lived long enough for the authorities to fly him to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he passed away while receiving treatment.
There is currently no information on the driver of the vehicle Ponce was traveling in, or if he or she sustained any injury. The CHP Barstow office is heading the investigation into the cause of the accident.
In California and the United States, motor vehicle collisions and other forms of accidents are not uncommon. Most of them end fatally due to the negligence of drivers and disregard for traffic laws. Lack of seatbelt use also contributes to the fatality rate, especially when the occupants of the car get ejected.
The authorities advise motorists to exercise care and caution when driving. When an accident occurs, drivers should immediately file an accident report and cooperate during investigations.
