During the accident several of the victims were ejected from one of the cars because they were not wearing seatbelts. The extent of the injuries is not currently known. But due to the nature of the crash, and the fact that people were ejected from vehicles, it is possible that the injuries are serious.

Law enforcement officers from the Phoenix Police department are currently investigating the accident to try an identify a cause. If any criminal wrongdoing occurred that caused the crash, then charges could be filed.

The area where the crash occurred was shut down to traffic so that police officers could collect evidence and examine the crash scene.

It is unclear whether any of the drivers involved in the crash were operating while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The crash occurred shortly after the conclusion of the Super Bowl, which increases the chances that at least one of the drivers was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
