For reasons that have yet to be determined, Paredes crashed into the center dividing wall and was thrown over it, off of the motorcycle. His body landed in the southbound lanes of the freeway. He was then hit by a vehicle traveling southbound.
The motorist then exited the freeway and called 911. Upon arrival, emergency personnel pronounced Paredes dead at the scene of the accident.
Police do not suspect drugs and/or alcohol being a factor involved regarding the driver who reported the accident. They have not ruled this out as a cause for Paredes’ accident.
It is unclear at this time if Paredes was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The state of California requires that all drivers and passengers of motorcycles wear a helmet. Helmets can help protect the head during an accident. Head injuries are often leading causes of death due to blunt force trauma in accidents.
The investigation into what caused Paredes to hit the divider wall initially is still under investigation. Police are asking anyone with information regarding this accident to call the California Highway Patrol Central Area office at 213-744-2331.
