A motorcyclist was killed in a car-motorcycle collision in the Pima County on the weekend. The crash occurred on the morning of Sunday, August 30. The victim was identified by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department as Jose Arvizu, 47.
According to the details shared by the Sheriff’s Department, the collision involved a minivan and a motorcycle. Arvizu was riding the motorcycle and traveling along the Valencia Road when he ran into the collision.

The collision took place close to the Casino Del Sol at Ignacio M. Baumea. It was reported to the authorities at around 7 a.m. It isn’t clear exactly how the collision occurred. Jose Arvizu sustained critical injuries in the crash. Once the first responders arrived on the scene, attempts to revive him failed. He died shortly afterwards at the scene.
The driver of the minivan was identified as Mario Humo, 44. Following preliminary investigations on the site, Traffic Unit detectives with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department concluded that Humo was negligent and caused the fatal crash. He was subsequently charged with manslaughter. The deputies then escorted Humo to the Pima County Adult Detention Complex where he was booked.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident. If the charges against Humo are confirmed, he stands to face stiff penalties as per Arizona laws. The state laws stipulate that the penalties for vehicular manslaughter include a prison sentence of 7 to 21 years. The actual sentence depends on the degree of negligence proved against the suspect in a given case.
