The CHP said that the driver that struck the deceased, a 42-year-old Bell Gardens man, stopped at the scene. The man told the investigators that he was heading south in the No. 2 lane at about 55 miles per hour when he struck Dever.
The authorities believe that drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the crash, and they did not reveal if the driver would get cited. The fatal collision led to the closure of the southbound lanes for about two hours while investigators carried out their preliminary findings.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and anyone with relevant information should contact the CHP East Los Angeles Area Office on the listed line.
After the investigation, the investigators will either recommend to the District Attorney’s Office a criminal charge or absolve the driver of any liability. The family of a deceased victim can also bring a civil lawsuit for wrongful death with the help of a car injury attorney.
