Michael D. Latty Jr., age 41, of Momence, Illinois, died on Jan. 26, 2020, after his vehicle was hit on Illinois Route 1 in rural Kankakee County, Illinois.
Ismael Aldape, age 50, who was driving southbound, crossed the road into oncoming traffic and hit Latty’s vehicle. According to the Illinois State Police reports, Latty was driving northbound on Illinois Route 1 near the intersection of 10500N Road when the crash happened.

The accident happened around 8:20 a.m. After the accident, authorities closed the route for about five hours so they could clean up the area and further investigate the cause of the accident.
The Kankakee County Coroner’s office pronounced Latty dead at the scene.
Latty was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze while Aldape was driving a 2016 GMC pickup truck. There were two passengers in Aldape’s vehicle, both of whom are female. They are aged 14 and 51, and both of the females also lived in Oak Lawn.
All three occupants of Aldape’s vehicle had minor injuries and were transported to a hospital.
According to the police report, Aldape, who lives in Oak Lawn, has been cited for improper lane usage. By law, motorists must stay in their own lane unless they have determined that it is safe to move out of the lane.
There is currently an investigation into the cause of the accident.
