Officer Thomas Olsen said the vehicle appeared to have rolled several times before coming to rest right-side up. The impact ejected the girl and her car seat onto the roadway, and officers found the seat separate from Fuentes.
Olsen stated that at the very least, the child was not restrained properly, and the car seat was not correctly fastened. He added that investigators are trying to determine if the girl was traveling in the seat.
Fuentes landed in the middle of Crows Landing, and the officer noted she was fortunate no oncoming vehicle struck her. A driver who came upon the accident moved the girl to safety. She suffered bleeding on the head, and medics conveyed her to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. The lawman said the victim’s injuries appear to be moderate, but since she cannot say what she is feeling, medical tests will determine her condition. There is no additional information at this time.
