The California Highway Patrol confirmed in a press release that three people sustained injuries in a rollover solo car crash in Merced County, California. The reports of the car accident released on Monday, May 25th, identified two of the injured victims as Clarissa Cowards, 42, and Alysea Jones, 19.
The two who are residents of Stockton share a mother-daughter relationship. The CHP’s Sgt. Danny Bowen said that the Memorial Day Crash happened at about 3:30 p.m. on the lanes heading south on Highway 99 and West Bradbury Road.

Officers who responded to the crash scene found Jones and the third injured person, identified as an 11-year-old child, on the roadway. A preliminary investigation showed that the two were ejected in the crash that began after Cowards failed to control the 2004 Dodge Durango sport utility vehicle.
The investigators said that the SUV veered from the number one lane into the number two, and went over the shoulder. The vehicle crossed an on-ramp, then overturned down an embankment. The CHP believes that Jones, the front seat passenger, and the child who sat at the rear were not belted down.
The medics took the two using air transport to undisclosed area medical centers for treatment of what the authorities described as severe wounds. Cowards, who appeared to have her seat belt on, complained of pains and received treatment at an unnamed hospital.
The report of the car accident also showed that neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the crash. The investigation is ongoing, and the CHP is trying to determine if a tire blowout is a primary cause.
