When first responders arrived at the scene, they found Mannani lying on the roadway unresponsive. The medics pronounced the man dead at the scene, and the corner placed the time of death at about eleven minutes after the car struck him.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said that the SUV driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. The investigation into the cause of the incident continues, and there’s no information on the motorist getting cited.
The problem of auto-pedestrian collisions in California is terrible and steadily growing worse. According to the Office of Traffic Safety, more people choose walking as a form of exercise and a healthier alternative to getting to school, work, and malls than using the available means of transportation.
Thus, more people on the road increase the chance of a car hitting them, especially if they are walking outside the sidewalks or crossing outside the designated crosswalk. Drivers failing to yield pedestrians or running red lights or stop signs also contribute to the problem. OTS advises the two to promote safe road behavior for their safety and those around them.
