The accident happened at about 5:15 p.m. between Ellwood Ridge Road and Brandon Drive, about a mile north of Calle Real. Authorities pronounced Corral dead at the scene. Paramedics took Becerra Corral to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Ramirez allegedly didn’t stop to help the Goleta pedestrians. Instead, he left his vehicle at the scene and fled on foot. At the time, witnesses described the driver as a male, 6-foot tall, thin build, facial hair, wearing a black hoodie. Witnesses last saw him headed westbound on Cathedral Oaks Road.
Officers found Ramirez, also a Goleta resident, riding as a passenger in a vehicle in Carpinteria about 8:30 p.m., a few hours after the hit-and-run. Reports stated the driver had no involvement in the hit-and-run accident.
Police took Aguilar into custody. Police booked him on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing injury, hit-and-run causing death or injury, fleeing the scene of a crime after vehicular manslaughter and a DUI alcohol. The charges come with an enhancement due to the death of more than one person while DUI.
Police closed the road from Winchester Canyon to Brandon Drive during the investigation.
