According to the Illinois State Police, a red 2005 GMC pickup truck driven by Ruyle headed northbound on I-267. Simultaneously, a white 2006 GMC truck operated by Pyatt traveled south on the same roadway.
The red pickup then crossed into the southbound lane, striking the white truck. The collision left both vehicles disabled sideways across both lanes of traffic with no lights on.
A few minutes after, a blue 2015 Kia Optima driven by Grizzle approached the wrecked cars, striking Ruyle’s GMC on the passenger’s side. The third car left the roadway on the right and rested in a ditch.
A fourth vehicle, an orange 2012 Fiat, driven by Roberts, came upon the first collision and struck the red GMC in the front end with the driver’s side of the vehicle. Medics airlifted Pyatt, Ruyle, and Grizzle to an area hospital, where the latter died while receiving treatment.
The other two victims, as of Friday afternoon, remained in the hospital undergoing treatment. Roberts refused medical attention. The ISP Crash Reconstruction Unit closed southbound I-267 while they reconstructed the crash site. The investigation is ongoing.
