The accident involved a semi-truck, pickup truck, and a garbage truck. The preliminary accident report showed that the pickup was traveling west on the outside lane of the interstate at a languid speed. The latter was a result of a traffic jam on Lamesa overpass.
The garbage truck was following the pickup from behind. The semi was also heading west, towards the traffic jam. The semi-truck, driven by Marc, then tried to change lanes to avoid hitting the garbage truck. The move was unsuccessful, and it struck the left back corner of the second vehicle.
The garbage truck then struck the pickup truck in front of it, before rolling sideways and resting on its roof. The driver of the two vehicles came out with non-life-threatening injuries and was seen walking around the scene of the crash.
The accident report showed that Marc and Beth, who was a passenger in the semi, died at the scene. The police did not cite anyone for the accident, and the investigation is ongoing.
