Wilmette police at about 5 p.m. Wednesday were called to investigate a report of a shoplifter at a pharmacy on Green Bay Road, according to authorities. The first officer who arrived at the scene located a man who resembled the suspect sitting inside a dark-colored Cadillac, police said.
A check of the vehicle’s registration showed it had been reported stolen, car accident reports state. But when officers attempted to contact the vehicle’s occupant, he drove out of the parking lot, crashing into a squad vehicle and a parked car in the process, police said.
The driver, identified later as Wallace, kept driving down Green Bay Road until he caused a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection with Linden Avenue, car accident reports state. He finally stopped in the 400 block of Green Bay Road where he was arrested, authorities said.
Wallace currently is out on parole after he was convicted on an unrelated theft conviction, according to court records. Police said additional charges are pending in connection to Wednesday’s incident.
