For reasons the investigators have not uncovered, the vehicle collided with the rear of a Ford F-150 driven by Trenton Elrod, 34. The latter was also heading south, and the impact of the collision caused his vehicle to roll several times. The truck struck a light pole, before resting on its side.
Lovette sustained severe injuries from the collision, and the medics transported him to University Medical Center for treatment. Elrod, and a passenger in the F-150, Megan Ledsome, 33, suffered moderate wounds and received treatment at the same hospital.
The Major Crash Investigation Unit of the LPD is investigating the crash. There is no additional information at this time.
Several reports of car accidents show that rear-ended collisions occur for several reasons which often lies at the feet of the driver. They include speeding, impairments, distracted driving, and adverse road and weather conditions like fog, rain, and snow.
Traffic officials advise drivers to emulate safe road practices to preserve their lives and that of others. Motorists should obey traffic rules, drive without impairments, and maintain the speed limit.
