Officers of the California Highway Patrol reported that the crash victim met his end at about 2 am at an intersection in the Southern California coastal city.
Investigators gathered that the involved motorist was driving through the south travel lanes on Bellflower Boulevard at high speed in a 2010 Dodge Charger. While in transit, the vehicle encountered a road dip as it attempted to cross East into Seventh Street.
The sudden encounter caused the driver to lose control of the Dodge and spiraled through the roadway for about 225 feet before crashing into a fire hydrant and a shopping center sign, leaving visible skid marks on its trail.
First responders attempted to rescue the operator of the Dodge Charger, but he was discovered dead on the scene.
Officers dispatched to the site of the wreck ascertained that the motorist was not restrained by a seat belt at the time of the collision, as against the State of California’s driver safety regulations.
The deceased’s identity was disclosed as 24-year old David Shelton Jr. From Long Beach.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, drugs, alcohol, or distracted driving could be possible factors in the crash, but none was yet to be ascertained.
The incident is still under investigation, and authorities have requested anyone with useful information to contact the police department.
