Just 11 days after being featured on a local Texas television news broadcast, 10-year-old Lexi Brooke Collins was killed in an ATV accident on April 17, 2020. The Knox County fifth-grader made handmade face masks for Anson General Hospital, who publically thanked Lexi on April 6.
Based on a statement made by Munday City Councilwoman Karen Logan, Collins’ family is full of nurses. Her mom, grandmother, aunt, and uncle are all nurses on the frontline of the Coronavirus.

Very few details have been released regarding the accident. The only thing released at this time is that the accident on the ATV occurred on April 17 and that as a result of it, Collins died. It is not apparent if she was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident or if she was taken to the hospital prior.
Collins had spent over 100 hours hand-sewing masks for Knox and the surrounding communities. The community scheduled a candlelight vigil for Sunday night at Centennial Park in Munday. The community is asking that those who plan to attend to bring candles, flashlights, or cell phones to the park and use social distancing standards by standing at least 6 feet from one another.
The candlelight vigil precedes the funeral that will take place Monday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Munday.
As a tribute to Collins and her selflessness, the communities of Munday and Benjamin are tying turquoise ribbons around trees to commemorate the little girl. Centennial Park also plans to erect a bronze statue for the girl in the future.
People are welcome to bring notes and momentos to Munday Elementary School to leave for the family.
