Sandoval was one of the contracted construction workers who is working on the I-285/GA 400 interchange project. Reports prepared by Sandy Springs officials and the state have indicated that Sandoval fell from the roadway. This is the second fatality on the project in the last four months.
Sandy Springs Fire Department had stated that Sandoval fell from the area on I-285 and Peachtree-Dunwoody Road. In that area, the contractors are working on building new ramps for the Transform 285/400 Project.
The exact circumstances around the reason Sandoval is still unclear at this time. The Sandy Springs Fire Department did release a statement on social media that they were able to reach the construction worker in time to get him to the hospital.
It was while Sandoval was at the hospital that he succumbed to his injuries. The Atlanta-based construction company expressed that they were deeply saddened by the death of one of their workers.
In October, the construction family experienced another loss of a contract worker. Dustin Maxwell was killed when he fell from a portion of the new overpass that they were building at the time for the Transform 285/400 Project.
In August 2018, the first accident for the project occurred. The name and the circumstances were not released. They did say that the injured construction worker was working for the construction company and was hospitalized for the injury.
Both the Department of Transportation and North Perimeter Contractors is currently conducting their own investigation into the accident at this time.
The Transform 285/400 Project is currently slated to be completed sometime in the middle of 2020.
