The patrol officer sustained relatively minor injuries in the crash and was not in danger. He was transported to a local hospital where he remained under treatment for his injuries as of Monday, September 7.
Following the collision, Matosich didn’t stop and instead fled the scene of the crash. The driver of another vehicle pursued Matosich and subsequently persuaded him to return to the accident scene. Once he arrived back at the location, he was arrested by the California Highway Patrol. His return to the crash site prevented this from turning into a hit-and-run for which he would have face stiffer penalties.
CHP then charged Kolton Matosich for driving under the influence. Investigations into the incident are still ongoing and the charge will likely be confirmed once his blood test reports arrive. Subsequent accident reports may reveal the actual charges that are brought against him.
