Jones said that it appeared that the car that struck the man ran the bike over, leaving it mangled. The victim sustained severe wounds, and the St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. pronounced him dead at 12:15 p.m. Friday, July 24th. The investigators did not disclose the vehicle involved or the identity of the driver.

The police chief noted that the accident’s area was dark and poorly lit, which might complicate the investigation. The latter is ongoing, and there’s currently no additional information.

Auto-bicycle collisions are not very common, but like auto-motorcycle crashes, they usually end with severe or fatal injuries. Thus, the latter must protect themselves by keeping both hands on the handlebars, wearing a helmet, staying away from busy traffic lanes, and riding without headphones. Additionally, keep both feet on the pedal, and ride a single-file with the flow of traffic when in a group.
