He is currently being held at Bowie County jail on $300,000 bail on two counts of intoxication assault.
The authorities said Sauls ran a red light at the intersection of Summerhill Road and New Boston Road about 8:30 p.m.
According to the probable cause affidavit, his 2008 Dodge Ram truck struck a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe.
The collision caused extensive damage and the airbags in both vehicles inflated.
Police said Sauls’ speech was slurred, and he smelled of alcohol. They also said they spotted
a container of Steel Reserve malt liquor on the grass next to the truck.
The driver of the Santa Fe was a 29-year-old woman whose name was not released.
She was transported to CHRISTUS St. Michael hospital with several serious injuries.
They included a broken neck, a broken wrist, a broken hand, and a broken collar bone, as well as a lacerated liver and a fractured skull.
Her five-month-old son only got minor scrapes and scratches as a result of flying debris and glass.
However, the 36-year-old male front seat passenger sustained serious injuries and he was transported to Wadley Regional Medical Center and later, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital. Accident reports say he received a skull fracture, facial fractures, and a severe brain bleed.
