The victim lost control of the car, and it went across both lanes before crashing into the concrete center divider. The impact caused the Mitsibuishi to bounce back across the highway, where it struck a 2017 Toyota, occupied by a couple from Chowchilla.
The force of the collision made the Toyota spin into a wooden signpost. The Mitsubishi rolled over, ejecting Woods onto the roadway. The victim was not wearing a seatbelt, and she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The couple in the Toyota did not sustain any injury. The accident halted traffic on SR-99 for several hours while the CHP cleared the scene and concluded their preliminary investigation. There is no information on whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the occurrence.
When driving and the vehicle spin out of control, the best thing to do is maintain a level head and shut down the urge to panic. Don’t brake too hard as it might cause the car to spin more or hydroplane. Step on the brakes gently, and continue to do so until the vehicle stops completely.
