While the name of the fatal victim is still pending family notification, the California Highway Patrol disclosed the identity of the injured motorist as Karen Almas, 63, of San Luis Obispo. The injured woman was reportedly traveling through the east traffic lanes on Highway 166, following closely behind a semi-truck trailer carrying dog food.

At the same time, a pickup truck was westbound on U.S. 166. For reasons yet to be established, the pickup crossed the centerline into the east lanes, onto the path of the semi. Police said the truck side-swiped the big rig and continued forward towards the Subaru. The truck collided head-on with Karen Almas’ vehicle, causing severe damages to both cars.

Almas survived with minor to moderate injuries, while the pickup driver, who gat ejected from his vehicle, sustained fatal injuries. Paramedics conveyed the San Luis Obispo woman to a hospital for treatment. The third motorist involved was unharmed in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the CHP.

Involving a car injury lawyer in injury-crashes can ensure the injured victims get compensated for resulting damages.
