The man then struck a white 1995 Ford Econoline van heading west on 231. The impact caused the second vehicle to roll over and catch fire. The driver of the van, McCay, successfully broke out of the burning car through a window but sustained multiple injuries, including burns from the fire.
The paramedics took the injured motorists using an air ambulance to the University of Chicago Medical Center for treatment. Chaney was trapped in his car, and the first responders found him unresponsive. They extricated him from the car and flew him to the same hospital. There is currently no update on his condition.
The sheriff’s office had the support of the Lakes of the Four Seasons Fire Force, Hebron Fire Department, Boone Grove Fire Department, and Kouts Volunteer Fire Department. The crash is still under investigation, and the police will release additional information about the accident when they have an update.
