According to a Worcester Police Department press release, officers at about 11 a.m. Monday were called to an apartment building on Richard Street to investigate a robbery in process. Witnesses said the suspect, who later was identified by authorities as Toro, pointed a gun at people as he robbed them.
Before police arrived, Toro fled the area in a black SUV, the release states. Officers located the suspect vehicle nearby and attempted a traffic stop, but Toro reportedly sped off.
Officers pursued Toro into a residential neighborhood, where he drove over a curb and into a local yard, according to car accident reports. It’s unclear from information released thus far whether any injuries occurred as a result of the suspected home invasion or the ensuing crash.
Police said Toro then “jumped onto the hood of the police cruiser” and ran off. However, he was caught shortly thereafter on Marble Street.
Police said they found a BB gun in Toro’s SUV and he allegedly had multiple pills for which he lacked prescriptions.
Toro is awaiting arraignment on charges of resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle without a license, disorderly conduct, possession and possession with intent to distribute, failure to stop for police and operating to endanger.
