The Michigan State Police and first responders responded to a vehicle accident on April 2 in Dafter. The accident occurred as the decedent was leaving a driveway on the Mackinac Trail. This car accident happened close to 1:00 p.m.
Reports indicated that 84-year-old Joseph “Little Joe” Malcolm Mongene, Jr. was leaving a private driveway situated along the Mackinac Trail. He pulled his car into the direct path of a pickup truck.

The first responders pronounced Mongene dead at the scene of the accident.
The obituary released for Mongene states that he and his wife had been married for 54 years. He was a member of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians. He worked in the logging industry as well as doing maintenance for Woodside, Inc. Mongene was a faithful member of his church and prayed daily.
The family held a private viewing given current circumstances.
Later this Spring, a graveside committal service will be at Kinross Lakeview Cemetery. The family is also planning to celebrate his life at a later date
Besides his wife, his children survive him, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mongene is preceded in death by his parents, a total of five sisters and one brother, and one stepdaughter.
