The CHP Spokesman Officer Sean Layton said that the victim operated a vehicle west on I-80 when he ran into a center barrier. The solo car crash injured the man, but an autopsy performed by the coroner’s office disclosed that they were not severe enough to have caused his death.
Layton stated that a male passenger who survived the occurrence with injuries revealed that he and Viveiros ingested cocaine before getting on the road. The coroner did not confirm the drug usage but is awaiting the toxicology test results to determine the substance ingested by the victim.
The toxicology test result will not be available for 6 to 8 weeks, and there are no additional details. The CCCCO will release an update once they have more information.
Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is one of the leading causes of crash-related deaths in California and the United States. Law enforcement and traffic agencies advise drivers to desist from driving while impaired and seek alternative transportation.
