Shortly after 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 23, Jordan Catlow’s life was changed forever. Catlow was the passenger in a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Daryn White that ended up hitting a pole at an excessive rate of speed.
Shortly before the accident, a Spokane police officer witnessed a vehicle speeding on Garland Avenue. He attempted to stop the vehicle, but he never got close enough and lost the vehicle when it turned onto Belt Street.

Minutes after witnessing the speeding vehicle, police and fire personnel were called to a vehicle accident at Assembly Street and Wellesley Avenue. The initial reports from the accident were that two people were trapped inside the car and it was on fire.
When arriving at the scene, the fire had put itself out. There was only one vehicle involved in the accident and it had crashed into a pole just after the intersection.
There were two male passengers inside the vehicle when emergency services arrived. They had to be extricated from the vehicle. Both men were taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Catlow had a partially amputated arm as a result of the accident.
Updates from a GoFundMe account that has been started for Catlow and his wife indicated that doctors were unable to reattach his hand. He is currently at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle recovering from the accident.
Catlow, up until recently, had been a soldier stationed in Hawaii. He and his wife settled in Spokane last fall and found out that they were expecting shortly afterward. Their son, Theo, is due in April.
The driver of the vehicle, White, suffered minor injuries. While at the hospital it was determined by police that he was the driver of the car the police officer had tried to pull over. A warrant was obtained, and his blood was tested.
After being released from the hospital, White was arrested and charged with two counts of vehicular assault and eluding a police officer.
The accident is still being investigated. It was not released if White was under the influence at the time of the accident.
