A nearby officer saw the accident and contacted emergency crews while assessing the victim’s wounds. Medics transported Hamilton to Inland Valley Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. The MPD said they do not suspect alcohol or drugs as factors in the collision, but the investigation remains active.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs like marijuana, prescription medicine, or illegal chemical compounds affects drivers’ cognitive ability, thereby causing accidents. Impairment caused by the two can also lead to reckless driving and speeding by road users.
California law prohibits drivers of cars and riders of motorcycles from driving impaired, and road users must maintain a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) below .08%. Commercial drivers must have below .04%, and young adults below the age of 21 must-have beneath .01%.
Failure to comply with the above would lead to adverse legal consequences for the offender. The latter covers criminal penalties as well as administrative suspension of driving privileges.
