Motorcycle accidents are one of the leading causes of crash-related deaths in California. With over 800,000 registered motorcycle operators, the Cal-Department of Motor Vehicles admonishes riders to treat the two-wheeled drive as more than a leisure vehicle.
To this end, riders must know their motorcycle, exercise care, and caution when on the road, wear a helmet compliant with US-DOT guidelines, and safety apparel. Those who want to obtain a riding license must take the Basic Riders Course (BRC), especially those below 21 years.
Avoid lane splitting, weaving in and out of traffic, turn on the headlight at night to enhance visibility, and avoid riding under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Carry out frequent maintenance, check the tires for cracks or bulges that might lead to a blowout, check fluid levels, and ensure the brake is functional.
