46-year-old Joe Alfred Valdivia would need a car injury lawyer’s expertise following his arrest for a hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist in Huntington Beach, California. The incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday, July 14th.

The crash report released by the Huntington Beach Police Department disclosed that the incident occurred around 12:25 a.m. at Sunrise Drive, half a mile from Pacific Coast Highway. The investigators did not reveal the facts of the events leading to the occurrence, but they stated that they found the unidentified cyclist lying on the roadway when they arrived at the scene.

Responding medics pronounced the victim dead, and Valdivia was nowhere in sight. The police began a search for the suspect and found him hours later. They placed him under arrest and charged him with hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and witnesses can contact the HBPD Traffic Investigators on the listed line. There is no additional information.

The California Vehicle Code defines a hit-and-run driver as a person who, while operating a motor vehicle strikes a car, person, animal, or property, and flees the scene without rendering help to an injured person, contacting the authorities, and without leaving behind his or her contact details.

When a death occurs in a hit-and-run crash, the District Attorney’s office may choose to file a vehicular manslaughter charge against the offending driver. The two offenses would get the offender time in prison amid other punishments.
