The Georgia State Patrol is investigating an accident that occurred Sunday, March 8. The accident happened just around 5 a.m. and involved two Newnan residents.
Based on the preliminary reports, a Mercury Marquis failed to stop at the intersection of Witcher Road and Highway 16. The driver of the car was identified as 42-year-old Jimmy Lee Parks. After failing to stop at the intersection, Parks’ car continued through the intersection and crashed into the woods.

Parks had one passenger in the vehicle with him. 51-year-old Jennifer Heath. When the Georgia State Patrol and emergency services arrived that the scene of the accident, they pronounced Heath dead.
They transported Parks to Piedmont Newnan Hospital for evaluation of his injuries before escorting him to Coweta County Jail.
An investigation of the vehicle uncovered narcotics. A blood test was administered to Parks while he was at the hospital.
Parks is currently being charged with DUI for drugs, cocaine possession, driving without a license, tampering with evidence, and driving too fast for conditions.
There is a possibility that Parks may be facing more charges when the toxicology reports come back.
The actual cause of death for Heath has not been released to the public. The reports did not indicate if she was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
It is not clear if Heath was under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident.
Police are still investigating the accident.
