The incident started just after midnight. That was when a Lubbock County Sheriff’s deputy stopped Pollard’s Toyota Corolla for a traffic violation near 82nd Street and Avenue P.
This is according to a news release from the LPD.
The deputy intended to arrest Pollard for an outstanding warrant.
However, he drove off and escaped the deputy. This led to a brief chase that went in a southerly direction on Avenue P. Pollard led the deputy from 82nd to 98th Street.
Pollard then ran a red light at 98th Street and subsequently lost control of the car. The vehicle went into the field west of Avenue P and south of 98th Street and rolled several times.
Emergency personnel took Pollard to University Medical Center with serious injuries.
There were no reports of other injuries occurring as a result of the car accident.
The road was blocked off for about an hour as police conducted their investigations.
It is not yet known what charges Pollard will face in connection with Friday’s incident. This could be provided in other police accident reports.
Earlier this month, a police officer was injured in a collision in the same area. He was driving east in the 1600 block of 98th Street when a driver attempted to turn left onto Avenue P and collided with his vehicle.
