The impact of the collision left the boy with what the authorities described as disabling injuries. The SAPD said that the minor’s injuries were so severe that the doctors at the local hospital wanted to fly him to another. They could not transport him because of adverse weather.
Officers determined that Martinez was under the influence of an illicit substance and arrested him. They charged the suspect with an intoxication assault. There is no information on the jail the police booked the man into or the terms of his bail.
The SAPD also charged a passenger in the Suburban identified as Devante Carson, 25, with possession of marijuana. Additional charges are pending, and the investigators are looking at surveillance videos to determine other offenses.
Anyone with information about the crash should contact the police station. Those with Ring doorbell camera or surveillance video in the 1600 or 1700-block of College Hills should call dispatch
Drivers involved in DUI-related crashes should contact a drunk driving attorney for legal advice and representation.
