A normal day for 14-year-old Waco teenager Jessica Taylor often included riding her skateboard around the neighborhood. On February 17, all of this changed and so did her family’s outlook on safety.
On the day of Taylor’s accident, she was out on her skateboard with a friend. According to her mother, the skateboard messed up and she fell off. When she landed, she hit her head so hard that she instantly began seizing.

Nobody understood just how critical Taylor’s injuries were until they got her to the hospital. Upon examination, doctors rushed her into surgery. She had to have clots removed on both sides of her brain that formed from the impact of the fall.
Taylor’s mom and sisters are now advocating for those who ride motorcycles, bicycles, and skateboards. They want them to understand the importance of wearing a helmet.
Since the surgery, she has been kept in a coma due to the injury to her brain. The family has been posting updates on social media. A page named “Blue for Jessica” has been formed by her family to support the young girl.
Since starting the page, the outcry from the community has been massive. There are people wearing blue to support the girl’s recovery.
Photos, past and present, of Taylor, have been posted to the group.
A GoFundMe page was created to help with the medical expenses for the family. So far, the page has raised $2,450 for the family. An update was posted by her sister yesterday.
The update stated that Taylor’s responsiveness has been better than before. Her eyes are beginning to respond, and she has been smacking her mouth. She is currently on a trach tube. There was nothing new or worsening on the most recent CT scan, which makes the family hopeful.
The doctors have been weaning her off the sedation slowly.
