The San Bernardino Police Department revealed in a press release that the collision took place along Base Line Street near the 215 Freeway. Officers said that Kloiber was behind the wheel of a Honda Civic involved in the wreck. The victim and the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado were facing west while attempting to turn left onto the freeway.
At the same time, a Chevy Malibu was eastbound on Base. The driver sped through a red light and slammed into the two vehicles. Kloiber sustained fatal wounds, and the occupants of the Silverado ended up in the hospital with injuries.
The Chevy driver identified as Henry Alfred Duffy, 28, of Adelanto fled the scene, but he later turned himself in at the San Bernardino Police Station. The SBPD said that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, and they arrested the suspect on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. The county jail records show that he is also facing a charge of hit-and-run, causing injury or death.
