That driver was 28-year-old Erick Eduardo Casas. Casas was not injured in the accident and was arrested at the scene for the accident.
Van Dam-Goudeau was taken to University Hospital from the scene of the accident where she later died from the injuries that she sustained in the accident.
The family of the teenager is beyond distraught over the accident and the death of their loved one. They want answers from Casas.
Van Dam-Goudeau’s grandmother Deborah Van Dam told reporters that she has raised her and her sister Ashley since they were little. She was in shock when the detective knocked on her door after 3:00 a.m. and informed her of the accident.
Ashley Van Dam-Goudeau, Jasmine’s sister, wants to know how someone could get behind the wheel of a vehicle drunk. She felt that if they had money to drink then they would have had money to call an Uber.
The family said that Jasmine graduated in 2019. While she was attending Warren High School, she was a track star and a cheerleader. She was actively involved in her church.
Casas is currently being charged with intoxication manslaughter in the accident that killed Van Dam-Goudeau. If convicted, Casas could be facing a prison term that ranges from two years to 20 years.
The San Antonio Police Department is still actively investigating the accident. There has not been any information released about where Casas was coming from in such an intoxicated nature.
The accident took place about one block from where the family has lived for the last 15 years.
