The teenage girl steered the car to the right for unknown reasons and veered off the roadway. The CHP said that the vehicle went airborne, landed on the ramp below below Downey, and came to rest on its left side close to a pickup truck in a construction zone.
When paramedics with the first responders arrived at the scene, they found one of the victims’ dead, and the other passed away at the hospital while receiving treatment. Neither Jasmine or Jose were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
The CHP is still investigating to find out the cause of the accident. They will release an update once they have more information.
Accident reports show that seat belts often help to prevent fatal injuries in a traffic collision, and also keeps motorists from getting ejected. Failure to belt down when driving is a traffic offense, and offenders are liable to receive a ticket and pay a fine.
