CHP officers who responded to a call about a pedestrian sitting in the middle of the freeway at about 12:30 a.m. said she inflicted cuts on the Uber driver. Recendiz broke the Honda’s mirror and tried to seize the vehicle.
The unnamed Uber driver then pulled into the right shoulder of the freeway and took his keys off the ignition to prevent the deceased from driving off. The driver physically ejected her from the vehicle and drove away.
The officers said that Recendiz walked from the freeway’s right shoulder into oncoming traffic. She was struck by a 2008 Nissan Altima, and died before the authorities arrived. First responders got to the scene at about 12:45 a.m. and found the deceased’s body east of Sepulveda Boulevard.
The accident report also showed that the authorities haven’t arrested anyone concerning Recendiz’s death. There is no information on the driver of the Nissan or whether he or she was negligent in any way.
The events leading to the accident remain under investigation, and anyone with helpful information should contact the CHP West Valley office.
