A top accident attorney would be needed after a dockworker in the Port of Oakland, California, fell to his death. The accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, March 31st, and the deceased has been identified by the authorities.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau identified him the same day as Jarvis Dwain Haskin, 59, of Alameda. The deceased fell to his death while working from the deck of a container ship at about 1:45 a.m. at Berth 58 at 1999 Middle Harbor Road.

According to the Oakland Fire Department spokesman, Michael Hunt, firefighters pulled the body of the deceased out of the water underneath a pier. Hunt said the firefighters at the scene noticed that there was a 10-foot space between the pier and the ship Haskin was working on.
After the retrieval, paramedics verified that the man was unresponsive, and they pronounced him dead. The accident is being investigated by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal OSHA). They are assisted by the U.S Coast Guard, and the coroner’s bureau.
The accident victim was confirmed to be a member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union by the Port of Oakland. A representative of the port said that workers, including longshoremen, are still working despite the shelter-in-place orders because of the Coronavirus.
Longshore workers are employed by marine terminals to load and unload cargo ships and containers. The Port of Oakland Maritime Director John Driscoll described the death of Haskin as a tragedy that struck everyone deeply.
A top accident lawyer can be contacted by the family of the deceased to be advised of their rights if OSHA finds any liability after investigating.
