An explosive chain-reaction wreck involving a trio of semi-tractor trailers on an interstate near Elmhurst on Sunday claimed the life of a Minnesota man, State of Illinois authorities reported this week.
Thirty-nine-year-old Jamin R. Perry, of Brainerd, Minn., was pronounced dead shortly after the crash, which occurred at about 11 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 290, the Illinois State Police reported. At least two other people were involved in the crash, but it is unclear from car accident reports whether anyone else was injured.

Perry at about 11 a.m. Sunday was driving in the center-right lane of Interstate 290 just outside Elmhurt when he lost control of his semi, troopers said. That set off a chain-reaction crash involving two other semis that were traveling in the same lane near Perry, car accident reports state.
Emergency medical personnel transported Perry to a local trauma center for treatment of serious injuries. However, he soon was pronounced dead, authorities said in car accident reports.
The other drivers were identified by troopers as 26-year-old Dhindsa Yadwinder-Simgh, of Winnepeg, Manitoba, and 53-year-old Simon Karkusashvili, of Brooklyn, N.Y. It is unclear from car accident reports available Tuesday whether either man was wounded as a result of the wreck.
The fiery crash prompted a multi-hour shutdown of the interstate as investigators worked at the scene. The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police, who have not said whether they suspect factors like speed or intoxication might have led Perry to lose control of his semi.
