The ATV went off the road, entered a ditch, overturned, and then ejected the deceased and a passenger. Dickinson sustained severe injuries and was taken by first responders to Polk Medical Center, where the doctors pronounced him dead.
The passenger, Amber Trims, 20, from Cedartown was taken to the Redmond Medical Center for treatment. The young lady’s injuries were not severe, and the doctors released her afterwards. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Accident reports have shown that ATV crashes are not uncommon, and often lead to fatalities. The first thing a rider must do before riding the vehicle is undergoing a rider’s course to get him or her acquainted with the do’s and don’ts of handling an ATV.
Wear a DOT-compliant helmet, goggles, long sleeves, long pants, and over-the-ankle boots. Avoid riding on paved roads as the vehicle was primarily designed to operate off the highway.
Never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol and ride the age-appropriate ATV. Don’t carry a passenger on a single-rider ATV, and young riders should always get supervised.
