The California Highway Patrol said that the accident occurred on Interstate 5 Freeway, south of Florin Road. The preliminary investigation uncovered that a vehicle heading south for reasons unknown struck Howery, who was standing on the roadway.
Other vehicles struck the pedestrian. The latter drivers stopped at the scene, while the first driver fled. The CHP described the unknown suspect as a man in his 20s. He was wearing glasses and is either Filipino or Hispanic descent.
The driver’s height is about between 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, and about 130 to 140 pounds. The CHP believes that the man was driving a Honda or Acura sedan. The vehicle had a 10-by-10-inch section missing from its left front bumper.
The CHP has asked members of the public to help them locate the hit-and-run driver. Those who witnessed the accident or anyone with helpful information should contact the Sacramento CHP on its listed line.
The driver, when found, arrested, and charged, would need a top accident lawyer to prepare his defense. The family of the deceased can also hire one if they wish to bring a civil lawsuit.
