An early morning accident on March 22, occurred along Highway 99 just north of Highway 119. When the California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene, they found a collision between a big rig truck and a Volkswagen Jetta.
At this time, the driver of the Jetta has only been identified as a 59-year-old male. The male driver was in the slow lane of the highway with his hazard lights on. For unknown reasons, the vehicle stopped running, and the car came to a stop.

The big rig, driven by 43-year-old Jeffrey Culver, was directly behind the car when it stopped running. This caused the truck to collide with the back end of the car. The driver of the Jetta suffered fatal injuries during the collision.
He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the driver, pending next of kin notification.
Culver was taken to Kern Medical Center with what was considered to be moderate injuries. He has not been arrested in conjunction with the accident.
The status of his condition has not been updated as of 8:29 p.m. EST.
The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the circumstances revolving around the accident. They have not officially determined if drug or alcohol impairment aided to the factors of the collision.
